Shop Talk- Upgraded communications and our Holiday schedule

Be on the lookout… we’re upgrading our comms

You may be getting some strange new emails or texts soon from Tom Dwyer Automotive.  DON’T BE WORRIED, they’re legitimately ours and legitimately to you.  We’ve just added some new features to our shop software that should improve communication before, during, and after your vehicle service.  When we say “just added”, we mean it… the software only went live on Monday! We want to play with it for a while and work out the bugs before we make a big announcement, but we should have more for you in next months’ newsletter.  In the meantime please be patient as we settle in the new tech, and we’d love to hear your reactions!

Comment of the Month

We go back to Quora this month to answer a fairly strange question…

“How can one know if they have purchased an unsafe or unreliable car?”

Our answer… ‘Unsafe’ isn’t the same as ‘unreliable’.

An ‘unreliable’ vehicle is a matter of inconvenience, ‘unsafe’ is a matter of life-or-death.  You’ll know if it’s unreliable… if it leaves you stranded somewhere, or gasps and limps if it actually gets you to your destination, or if it wobbles and shakes or makes strange, unexplained smells or sounds, then you bought an unreliable vehicle.

‘Unsafe’, though, is different.  You (or your mechanic) can look at brake pads, check steering, and see other obvious safety problems, but some of the most serious things may not show until it’s too late.  A frame straightened after an accident (which often happens in a reconstructed title) may not crumple properly in a crash.  An improper airbag system may not inflate when you’re heading toward a windshield.  There are other, also-scary things that can go wrong without showing any previous indications.

Really, though, you shouldn’t have any doubts about what you bought.  If you’re wondering AFTER money has changed hands (especially with a private party) it’s almost always too late.  For other Quorans out there, the ONLY way to protect yourself is to get a PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION from a QUALIFIED auto shop BEFORE you buy.  Don’t settle for a CarFax or the seller’s checklist, PAY FOR AN INSPECTION YOURSELF at a shop you trust so you know PRECISELY what you’re buying ahead of time.  And then LISTEN TO THEIR ADVICE!  Don’t fall in love with a once-in-a-lifetime vehicle and then ignore the mechanic that tells you it’s a lemon!  A PRE-PURCHASE inspection can give you the info to make a wise decision, but it’s up to you to make it.

We have a couple ongoing offers you might find valuable…

Carbon Neutral Program

Our company’s commitment to the environment led us to partner with Bonneville Environmental Foundation to create our Carbon Neutral Program in 2007. Client members offset the carbon production of their vehicles for one year AND save 10% on Labor Charges here at the shop! It’s a win for you AND our environment and it’s been very successful… since we instituted the program our members have prevented over 1.9 MILLION POUNDS of carbon from being dumped into our air!

Referral Reward Program

Year after year, referrals from our existing clients are our greatest source of new clients, so we’ve tried hard to think of some way to appropriately reward people for their referrals.  Our solution is  our Referral Reward Program, where we make donations to the non-profit group of your choice to say ‘thanks’ for your generous referralsHere’s how it works…

And just a couple other things to know…

Your reviews and referrals matter

We’re constantly grateful for the supportive and loyal clients we’ve developed over the years.  Your comments and appreciation keep us on the right road to providing the superior automotive service you deserve.  Your reviews and referrals are not only the highest compliments we can receive, but they’re the lifeblood of our new business.  If you like what you’ve found at Tom Dwyer Automotive Services, please tell a friend or write a review on Yelp, Google, or the review site of your choice. Thank you!

Latest Automotive Recalls

Automobiles are just like any other product; occasional flaws in manufacture or design can cause problems once they leave the factory.  When an issue is identified the manufacturers and government work hard to bring the vehicles back in for refit or repair, but not all recalls make the front pages.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration maintains a constantly updated list of recalls from every manufacturer.
